Happy Friday!! Another weekend on the way, woop woop! This weekend is going to be extra fun for us because we’re celebrating Chris’ birthday tomorrow! His actual big day isn’t until Tuesday but birthdays on Tuesdays just aren’t as fun as birthdays on Saturdays — fact.
After ongoing aches and pains the past two weeks and with my chiropractor out of town until next week, I decided that my body just needed a little break. I have declared this a ‘no-run week’. It means I’ll be running a little more than I anticipated on our holiday to the east coast in a couple of weeks but I think ultimately I have to listen to my body and my body is saying ‘Oi! I need a break, bro!’
I took three rest days, did a little light cardio on Wednesday and then hit the gym yesterday.
I started out with 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical…
After the cardio sesh I moved into the class room and did this super shweaty workout.
After the gym it was time to re stock our sad little fridge. I was also hungry at this point and shopping while hungry can always lead to weird grocery choices. Tip – to avoid this, shop around the perimeter of the store first. That’s usually where the fresh produce, meat, dairy etc is. So you’ll fill up your trolley with the good stuff first. Then only go down the aisles that you know you need stuff from. It helps, trust me!
Lately I have been feeling my motivation in the kitchen lacking severely. I haven’t tried anything new in a while and I wanted to have fun in the kitchen again!
Once the groceries were put away I decided to get baking!
I have had this recipe for fudgey avocado brownies pinned for a long time and finally decided to give it a try!
The recipe says that you can’t taste the avocado and I guess you kind of can’t. Well you can’t taste that its avocado, but you can taste that they’re not your ordinary brownies. I really like them a lot. Chris on the other hand, not so much. I think they’re definitely worth a try. They’re flour less and I cut back a bit on the sugar so they’re a winner in my books!
I wanted to try something new for dinner too since I was already in the kitchen, which meant it already looked like a bomb hit it. If you’re going to clean something, might as well make it reallllyyyyy dirty right?
I followed this recipe with a couple of changes and whipped up a sweet potato hash. I used coconut oil instead of canola and used a diced Granny Smith apple instead of red pepper. I really liked the burst of freshness from the apple.
Especially good with a runny fried egg on top. Delicious!
It was nice to try something new and fresh in the kitchen. Sometimes that’s all you need to get your mojo back!
Speaking of new and fresh in the kitchen, a couple of guys from home and actually one that I went to high school with have an awesome YouTube channel ‘Bondi Harvest’ set up showcasing their delicious recipes and set right out of their apartment in Bondi. Check it out HERE.
I hope you all have fun plans for the weekend!
