Phew! What a fun Saturday we had over here in the McD household!
I hope you all had a fab Saturday too!
When Chris and I were first living in San Francisco together, and especially when we first got Annie we used to take what we called ‘Adventure Days’ pretty much every weekend!
Throwback photo – Annie’s first ever ‘adventure day’ and first ever beach day just after we got her from the shelter. Look at her lion haircut from the shelter, she was somethin’ else!
Anyway, back on track…
We have been all over the Bay Area on our adventure days and realised that we hadn’t taken one in too long!
So today, we decided to head down to a little coastal town called Davenport just outside of Santa Cruz. Thanks to Janae’s blog, where I stumbled across a post from her own trip to Davenport, I knew where to eat. Ahhh how I love blog stalking reading!
We went right to Whale City Bakery Bar and Grill, right across the street from the ocean to dig into their fish and chips!
We got an awesome table outside in the sunshine and perused the menu (not that I needed to after hearing about the fish and chips!).
I was seriously impressed with the fish and chips from this place. This is a big statement from me because I am typically kindddaa picky about fish and chips. I hate when there’s not enough batter, but I hate when there’s too much and it’s too thick and you end up with a teeny bit of fish and a whoooole lotta batter. Ick!
This batter was light and awesome and the fish itself was delicious!
Score!
We enjoyed our lunch with a side of awesome sunshine and then grabbed the hound and headed across the street to check out the beach!
We had to hike down a little bit from the road and across an abandoned train track…
…and then we were greeted with this…
This beach was beeeaaauuuttiiful!
There were quite a few people there out and about but it still felt like a totally wild, private California beach.
There was an awesome mossy canal type blow-hole which so beautiful.
The beach was also covered in foam!! It was so weird. Chris of course went right and picked it up (he likes to touch things he finds on the ground) but it kinda icked me out!
Annie of course had a blast running around and losing her little dog mind. I think sand is her number one favourite thing in the world, besides kisses!
The whole day today, I was just having one of those days where I felt especially lucky in my life. Lucky to live in such a beautiful place, lucky to be able to explore a country that is still new to me and lucky to be able to it all with my best friend by my side.
It’s the little things in life people, the little things!
We ended our adventure day by heading to one more beach and then taking a scenic route home. Adventure days are the best days!!
Happy Saturday night!

Hey Fizz, thanks for sharing your fun day. I wholeheartedly agree about the ‘little things in life ‘.
They are the big things! Xx
