Good Saturday morning!!
I don’t know how your weekend is shaping up, but mine is looking mighty fine. The sun is shining, people are out and about and it’s a beautiful San Francisco day.
Chris was up bright and early this morning to head out for a surf leaving my favourite furry cuddle buddy and I to sleep until about 7:30.
Breakfast…
I knew I had my long run on the agenda for this morning so I wanted to keep breakfast somewhat light but I also know I need a good amount of fuel in me to keep me going. I decided on my tried and true microwave porridge (made with water, not milk) and a cup of tea.
I popped my bowl in the microwave for its first zap, took it out, stirred it up and put it back in. And then this happened…
Wup Wowwww. Porridge fail! Ah well, there was still enough actually in the bowl to make for a decent breakfast so I got it all cleaned up and munched away.
Workout…
I let breakfast sit and settle for about 2 hours before deciding it was now or never for my long run. My motivation begins to fade fast so I know I have a small window to actually make it out the door.
I had intended to do an 8 mile loop around my neighbourhood, but once I started running I was really enjoying the scenery and wanted to keep going. When I came up upon Fisherman’s Wharf (4 miles) I texted Chris to see if he wanted to bring Annie and meet me at Chrissy Field since I thought I was going to run all the way. By the way, it’s incredibly hard to text and run at the same time, I don’t know how people do it!
I ate Gu Chomps for the first time today, one at mile 4 and one at mile 5 at the top of a killer hill. I have the watermelon flavour which was surprisingly tasty and I think they definitely helped push me over the line.
I made it to Chrissy Field and my 8 mile mark in 1:14:46mins. Phew! I made it! At this point, I can’t actually imagine running another 5 miles on top of that!! But I guess it’s all in good time.
Chris and Annie pulled in right about the time I did and we got to have some fun family beach time.
And the view wasn’t bad either…
It was really fun having Chris and Annie there to meet me when I was done and a little beach walk was the perfect cool down. Along with some Wanza cuddles…
We spent some time at the beach before I started to get cold…and tired…and hungry. Time to head home!
Now I’m enjoying a little post-run snack before getting on with the rest of the weekend.
A little carbs, a little protein, a little potassium…good news!
I hope you all have some fun weeekend plans!
